WPDesigner Announces the Five Dollar Theme Club!

Today I finally received the much anticipated announcement from Small Potato regarding the launch of his FIVE DOLLAR theme club. Yes, you heard me right folks, only Five Dollars! Small Potato has continually released some great themes, and he continues to turn the WordPress theme world on it’s head.

From the WPDesigner website:

What is this club?

This is a WordPress themes club. You pay $5 per year for unlimited access / downloads. Each year, you’re guaranteed at least 12 themes.

What are you allowed to do with the club themes?

You do not need a developer license to use the club themes for your clients. And, you may use your club themes on as many domain names as you wish; make sure you own those domains. Basically, just don’t resell, give them away for free, and / or claim that you’ve created them. Here’s the terms and conditions page.

No Add-ons and Hidden Fees

There’s no copyright or credit removal to purchase or add on to the $5. You pay $5 for the whole year. That’s it. The club themes come without copyright labels or links. In fact, the only trace of Wpdesigner and yours truly is on two short lines in the style.css file.

Themes Support

There are two ways to get help. The first one is through the ticket system from your themes club account. The second one is through the forums, where you’d usually get a faster response because multiple people would be viewing your question at the same time.

All accounts are activated manually. I’ll do it as soon as possible, but please allow at most 12 hours for your account to get activated. Thank you for your patience.

You can get even more details by reading this pdf that WPDesigner put together.

I just signed up, are you going to do the same?

    Dota,

You can sign-up here, http://www.wpdesigner.com/themes-club/. But I would not recommend it, you should be aware of the controversy that has surrounded this blog ans also of the fact that there have only been four themes in the club so far.

After the blog owner came up with this club idea, he sold the blog and it’s development seems to have ended. Just read through the comments on the main page and you’ll see what I mean.

Is there any way we can see a preview of the themes?

I had not heard of the theme club until finding this post. I am familiar with Small Potato’s themes and was excited until I read the comments on the home page – bummer.

Seemed like a pretty good idea. I wonder why the new owners aren’t persuing it. Perhaps others can give it a go. I looked for a couple hours yesterday for just the right theme, The only one I came across was $100.00. A little too steep. While they only had a few themes to get going I’m sure it would have grown nicely.

@nick I don’t think there’s a way to preview the themes. You have to click on each theme.

$5 seemed a very cheap price, it really shows you get what you pay for and if you expect allot from $5 then I’m sorry to say you won’t get much. They should try it again with a decent yearly charge spread over the year.

Hi there, just to clarify. We shouldn’t be dealing with these people because they continue to not justify their claims?

Or is there a new owner who is pushing this?

    Thanks

I have to say that I’ve found a lot of the free wordpress themes to be buggy and troublesome. There is rarely any support, either. I’m happy to pay a few bucks if I can get a decent theme with a modicum of support.

It’s amazing to get so many themes with unlimited usage rights for just $5…it’s an awesome resource for any blog developer.

Thanks for giving up the head’s up!

I love the 5 dollar theme idea. After seeing how free templates are so buggy, and paid templates are so expensive, I think you have a winner on your hands.

They may have offered some good themes…but there are literally thousands of free themes out there that look great. If you do a search, you can find listings for just about any theme or niche! :) Sharon

    Hey Jeremy,

It WAS a good deal, and I should update this post, but WPDesigner had some issues. The theme club probably still works, but I’m not sure all the themes are up to date with the latest version of WP, or even if new themes are still being created.

EDIT: Just checked, the theme club is discontinued.

If the themes look professional, paying $5 is good as it keeps the provider going.

5 dollar themes? That looks like a great deal! I got mine for 40 usd and it was a good deal, so 5 usd is even better! I think this low cost approach is a good way to get into the market and still make a good amount of money!
