What Will Make WordPress Easier For You?

I started WPM in order to help people learn about WordPress. Whether it’s help with the installation of the core WordPress files, themes hacks, or plugin recommendations, I am committed to helping you, the end user. Now I am asking for your assistance. Don’t worry, I’m not asking for cold hard cash, just for you to share your deepest WordPress desires.

After the release of A Visual Guide to Installing WordPress for the Complete Novice, it was clear that there is a need for easy to read visual tutorials. Knowing this, we have started compiling a list of WordPress related subjects that we feel can be communicated well through a visual tutorial. Now the question is, what do YOU want?

If you could please take the time to leave a comment and help us brainstorm some tutorial (and tutorial related) ideas, we would be very grateful.

I would love to know how themes are made. maybe too big a topic, but be nice to get a beginner’s look into designing your own theme.

Yeah, theme creation is a big subject, but one that can be broken into smaller parts. Although I am still learning the finer points of theme creation I searched high and low for good tutorials and found this one to be my ultimate starting point.

I printed it out and followed along (and this forced me to type everything out so I wouldn’t just be copying and pasting). At the end I had a very basic theme. I have since used this theme as the basis for creating others. I would recommend doing this and also reading the following book to get a fuller understanding of the parts and how they fit together. CSS – The Missing Manual

Thanks for your suggestion, I have put theme creation high on the tutorial list.

More detailed information about creating a membership site using WordPress would be helpful. I’m working with WordPress, WishList, AWeber, bbPress, etc. to set up my membership site and it is a struggle all the way. The biggest challenges are a) customizing the theme (Thematic) and b) figuring out how to make the site behave in such a way as to provide the user experience I’m looking for. It’s been so frustrating, and I am having a hard time even hiring someone to help me! The people who sound like they “get it” want $2K-$3K, and the people closer to my price range (under $1K) don’t sound like they have a clue. I’m willing to do the work but am no a programmer of any kind, so step-by-step guidance would be a godsend to someone like me.
Best of luck, and thanks for asking the question.
