There are a few different ways to add Amazon Associate links to your Wordpress powered website. You can manually build associate links, you can use a WP plugin that allows Amazon Associate links, but have you ever thought of creating a complete store using nothing but Amazon Associate links? If you’ve had any experience building Amazon Associate links, you know as well as I do that to build one page, let alone a whole website, can be a labor intensive and time consuming task. The good news is that there is an easier way, and it’s free…
…it’s Associate-O-Matic and I’ve been using it for the last two years to add full-fledged Amazon Associate stores as an extension to the various websites that I author, or design for others. I have nothing but praise for the programmer(s) behind this application and also the great support from the Associate-O-Matic community. If you’re interested in extending your Wordpress powered (or any website), then you shoud have a look at Associate-O-Matic.

Thanks so much for the detailed explanation and, in the process, answering my questions.
I understand now that the AOM store is not actually part of the WP site, but you create links from WP to the store. So in my example, I’d create links within WP that, when clicked, would bring up the AOM store. I guess the trick is to make the AOM store and the WP site look as similar as possible, and have a link from the store back to the mother blog – as you’ve done with your shop.php page.
I suppose one could ask why bother with a WP site when you can simply create a stand-alone AOM store, but I’m thinking of building WP affiliate sites which could, for example, include data feeds for some merchants yet also harness the power of AOM for specific Amazon products that fit the niche. But not sure if there are any major flaws (SEO, themeing) in this idea?
Thanks again for the help.
@ Scotch,
Yep, that’s the basic idea, and yes, you could certainly create a stand alone website that consists solely of the AOM store. I just happen to use them to extend the capability of my WP-based sites if there are products related to whatever subject my main blog is about.
I don’t think there are any inherent SEO flaws with an AOM store, in fact, there are a lot of options included with AOM that speak directly to SEO optimization. But I’ll leave that for the AOM specialists;)
Hi all great information here and good thread to comment on.
Can I ask though – how did you get this picked up and into google news?
Very impressive that this blog is syndicated through Google and is it something that is just up to Google or you actively created?
Obviously this is a popular blog with great data so well done on your seo success..
it used to be that amazon affiliate was useless as all they sold was low profit books. Now you can make some good money. Example is if you have a photography and videography site you can link to 5,000 dollar amazon camaeras and $600 lighting kits. I am using it for some clients of mine for healthfood supplements and video games.
Very true. The possibilities are truly endless with the product choices you can display.
i’m developing similar plugin but a bit simpler – extrpod – select and customize products from comission junction and more providers will be added soon
first release in a week or so …
all navigation is seo friendly, multiple categories, works with most themes, has own customizable widgets.

After experimenting with AOM and linking to the store from a WP blog as outlined further above, I’ve opted to go with Magnik which is also a free script for building stores using Amazon’s datafeed.
I found Magnik easier to customise to match the look of the blog and like the way it creates navigation for categories and sub-categories, together with a breadcrumb trail that’s automatically created. The documentation is sketchy at best but the script is not difficult to install while the default template can be customised with some CSS tweaking. Definitely worth a look for anyone wanting to build a stand-alone store or link to from a WP blog.

many use Associate-O-Matic so that might make your store not unique
This is great information. Has anyone tried Easystore?
Just what I was looking for! My wife started her blog about three weeks ago, and is highlighting cookbooks, etc that she likes. She’s not html-familiar, so a plug-in like this could be a dream for me (aka I won’t have to add her links, etc for her).
Thanks for your website, I’m thinking it would be cool to make a website and make money for my family. I think I might look at all of your posts now. Thank you.

It’s nice to see that you recommend the software but in the same time promote it through your affiliate links! anyway it wont support selling some items because Amazon blacklisted them cause of over-demand! items like the Wii for example.
Hi,
The plugin sounds great, but I have a real problem with Amazon. I use Amazon links on one of my sites, but i find the following problems:
1) The conversion rate is poor.
2) The commission is low.
3) They don’t pay you for new customers like ebay does ( Unless I’m wrong)
What have you found to be the best converting catagories? LOL, without giving away your niches!!!
@ buy wii,
You seem to be accusing me of promoting the AOM script simply because I’m an affiliate. I want to make it clear that I have used the AOM script for at two years on dozens of sites before I even wrote a review, or signed up as an affiliate. I believe in this product, and I can attest to the helpful developer and people in the support forums. As far as Amazon blacklisting things, I’d like you to show me (and my readers) some proof of that statement…or are you just promoting your wii store perhaps?
@Home Alarm,
Just to be clear, the AOM script is not a WP plugin. It’s a standalone script that you install into it’s own directory.
Now to your questions:
1) This depends on your niche and how you market your AOM store within your blog or website. I have one site that only gets around 500 visits a month, but it generates roughly $10-20 permonth from AOM Amazon purchases. It’s a targeted niche and the visitors who go there are looking for something specific.
2) Remember that the commission amount is directly related to the final cost of your store products. Higher priced products (that people are willing to buy online) equal a higher commission.
3) No, Amazon does not pay for new affiliate sign-ups as far as I know.
I’ve been using amazon associates for a while and highly recommend it. I’ve developed a few amazon websites for various niches and they’ve become big earners for me.
Two of my amazon sites are http://www.WeKnowPhoto.com and http://www.OnlineToolsandHardware.com . These stores were developed by ecommerce for everyone. They were created in less then a week each, and has already started to pay for itself.
The amazon associates program is a great way to earn a supplemental income or even a main source of income if you are a good marketer. Essentially when it comes down to the amazon associates program, you are your own boss of your own store, it’s up to you to brand a site, and market the site, aka getting the visitors in the door.
thanks,

Hi
Wow, this is a great post. Thank you for taking the time to pen it…
Interesting stuff!
I want to tell you how I have tried so many network marketing jobs and home based businesses, over and over again. They all charged me tons of money, on different ways of how I can get rich quick. I am still looking for that to happen.
So, I said I would no longer spend all my money on all those different schemes. I gave up on all my hopes and dreams. Until I found this new company that only costs $10 a month to start your own business. So, I thought about it I was spending over $10 a day on my lunch from my regular 9 to 6 job. So, I said to myself if I take my lunch to work 1 day out of the month, that will pay for my business operating costs.
I have to be honest I am not rich, but I do make enough money to pay my small bills every month (energy, water, gas, and cell phone). I know a few hundred dollars isn’t much but its a start and I am loving it.
So, if you are interested on how I make this happen month to month, please email me back that you are interested and I will show you how, step by step. If you act fast you can join my team now 7 days for free and if you don’t like it, QUIT! But, I know you will love it. http://www.website.ws/jkeyes

You’ve got it, that’s the general jist of how I integrate AOM with WP. The trick is indeed to make them look similar, sometimes it’s easier said than done, but it depends on the theme being used, and of course, how much time you put into it:)
One could certainly create a stand alone store with AOM, and many people do. Using WP is my personal preference, and extending it to include a complete storefront using AOM is an easy way to build more content around my blogs. You mentioned using affiliate data feeds…you might also be interested to know that the paid AOM version includes RSS feeds…hint hint;) If you are interested, feel free to click there from one of the links in this post;)

This is a very useful widget that will make being part of Amazon Associates even easier..
Amazon Associates revenue seems to depend heavily on the type of site and the niche. I have seen some sites with low traffic and excellent conversion, and some with huge traffic and a near-zero conversion rate.
Thanks! I have been using the standalone but I enjoy have the features of wordpress so this is great!
