I am running the WordPress iPhone application found on the iTunes app store. It has some pretty nice features for it’s initial release, but I look forward to even more.

Today, that may have all changed. During my daily journey on the web I came across a plugin called Your Members from Cambridge New Media Services. Here’s the description from the plugin’s page:

Allows you to set up a blog which accepts money in return for access to individual posts or general membership. Your Members is the Wordpress Membership Plugin designed and built to allow you to build membership sites quickly and easily.

It includes:

• Flexible Membership and subscription management
• Pay per Post (not to be confused with the other one)
• Authenticated Downloads

and loads of other features…

If you have visited the links above, you’ve already learned that this is a paid plugin. If you’re just learning that as you read this, well, now you know…it’s a paid plugin. Does that make it any less useful? Absolutely not! In fact, I think that’s a tell tale sign that it works, and that it can be flexible enough to help you earn a serious income from running a membership based WordPress installation.

Of course, you have to have some legitimate and worthy products or reasons for people to want to join, but that’s up to you. The technical challenge of how to offer those products can be achieved by using the Your Members WordPress plugin.

So what is it and what does it do?

Your Video Widgets let you earn referral fees while sharing the videos you already post on your webpage. Use Your Video Widgets to make your videos more interesting, informative or entertaining by adding product links to them.

You’ll earn referral fees when users click on product links and make purchases on Amazon.com.

When you’re logged into your Amazon Associates account, click the link Build Links/Widgets in the left hand column…

Upload your video, accept the terms, and give your video widget a title…

Play your video and click the “Add product” button wherever you’d like your first referral link to appear in your video…

Search for the product on Amazon that you want to link to. Naturally, you would want to link to a product that’s relevant to whatever your video is about…

Select the product to add…

…and that’s it. You now have Amazon referral links in your video!

IndieLab.org is designed to provide FREE blogs for media creators of all kinds. Being involved in the internet media community for the last five years, it became clear to us that there are some media creators who have no interest, don’t have the technical skills, or who just don’t have the time to spend on buying a domain, installing WP and plugins, and generally hacking their installs to achieve what they want…but they still have the desire to create a blog, create media, and post it. Our goal was to make this process as simple as possible, hence, http://indielab.org was born.

Please know that there are MANY things still on the to-do list for this site. The most important now being the creation of tutorial videos on everything from basic posting to how to use the specific tools we’ve installed. Not everything is clear for new users now, but our plan is to provide an overkill of support related materials.

The first album is Beck’s, The Information.

I bought this album without really previewing any of the songs. I felt comfortable doing this because I have been a long time Beck fan, and I’m well aware that the styles used in his music can vary widely; but with each album, I always seem to find a favorite.

The second album is by a Canadian rapper named More or Les, and it’s called The Truth About Rap.

WTF? Did you say Canadian rapper? You heard right, and what caught my attention was the name of the album; The TRUTH About Rap.

I’ve long been a fan of Rap and Hip-Hop. If you’re not a fan of this type of music, please give this a chance. If your idea of Rap is what you hear on commercial radio, please know that what you hear on the radio is NOT my idea of true Rap. More or Less really does bring the spirit of Rap back to it’s roots on this album. Each song tells a story, and has a beginning, middle, and end. He is clever with his usage of words and weaves through the beats nicely, creating a medley for each song.

Why am I talking about this on website about WordPress? I am a subscriber to Tim Ferris’ blog and I received the latest post today detailing the success that The 4-Hour Work Week readers have achieved. Together, they raised enough money to build a school in Vietnam. You can read the details here. Again, you ask, how does this relate to WordPress development? Hang tight, I’m getting there.

As I was reading through the post, there is an image of the plaque that has the names of the top donors. The top donor is no surprise really, it’s Tim Ferris, but I was delighted to see the second name on that plaque, Matt Mullenweg. I can’t say I was surprised though.

It’s no secret that Matt’s open and giving nature has allowed many people to do a lot of very worthy things with WordPress, and I can’t thank him enough. The reason I was so delighted was that it was a bit of an inspiration for me to know that Matt Mullenweg was somehow associated with Tim Ferris, either personally or by reading his book. Since first reading the above mentioned title, I have been putting many of the techniques into practice in my life and I have found them to be very helpful in achieving the goals I set for myself.

Congratulations to the 4-Hour Work Week crowd, Matt Mullenweg, and others on your great achievement. You are all making the world a better place, and I thank you:)
