Most of you are aware of the novelty of video sharing sites like YouTube, Google Video, and Metacafe. Some of you are even embedding and linking to videos you find on these sites, but are you really leveraging the power of web-based video on your WordPress-powered blog, or are you just promoting someone else’s idea?
In this series you’ll learn the benefits of creating and posting your own videos. You’ll also learn of some great WordPress-specific tools that will make it easier, especially when using WordPress. Best of all, the video tools listed are completely free. There’s absolutely no reason for you to pay for any WordPress themes, software, or plugins in order to leverage the power of video. Let’s get started.
Why display video on your site?
Marketing
- Video easily becomes “viral” and can continue to drive traffic to your site well after it’s original posting date.
- For products that are distinguished by motion or sound; prospects can see and hear the benefits.
- For products that are complicated to explain or need to be demonstrated; you can be sure your message is getting through completely and accurately.
- For big-ticket and prestige items; a video says “you are important”.
- When you want to show prospects how you perform a service or manufacture a product, to demonstrate quality, precision, etc.
- When you have great testimonials or expert endorsements to share
Should YOU Display Video on Your Website?
If you fall into any of the following categories, you should certainly be using video on your website.
- You have a product or service to sell.
- You have tutorials or “how-tos” to share with your readers.
- You’re an independent film maker.
- You want to promote an idea or ideal that you feel the world needs to see.
Stay tuned for part two of this series to learn about free WordPress video tools and resources to help you produce and display your own video.

Additionally, creating videos and posting them to the top video sharing sites can dramatically improve search engine visibility and help drive more traffic to your site! There are tons of free plugins for WordPress that make posting videos super-easy!! And a really great resource for people looking to get started with online video is called Make Internet TV … very nicely done and easy to follow.

hey, thanks for this write up. we’re just venturing into the world of video production and attempting to make a (hopefully)funny viral type thing that will shortly be hosted on the page I’ve linked to here. we hope to have it up by end Aug 08 so anyone reading this comment after that should be able to pop on over and check it out.
how funny it will ultimately end up is always debatable of course, but I can guarantee one thing, the girl presenting it will be HOT, worth looking just for that.
thanks again and to the previous commenters for their tips and resources also.

Hey Wordpress Modder, thanks for the tips I wasn’t sure if you could put videos in posts or not. I actually just installed Wordpress (for the first time) to create a finance/credit card blog this afternoon. These tips will help tremendously, I’ve already bookmarked you’re post – I’ll have to come back here and use them once I get the hang of things with Wordpress.
Thanks again…
@Ryan,

Video is a perfect way to get your point across in a blog post or web page.
A picture is worth a 1,000 words. So obviously a video must be worth a lot more then that.

Video marketing is a great way to market your website. I totally agree with this post. My fav tip is about selling your products through videos. That is a very strong marketing tactic which is still under looked.
Hey,
I have used video marketing to gain over 300 consistent visitors each day for the last three months for one of my sites. It does work just takes a little hard work. Just like most things tho.

During my many years as a video producer, I spoke with hundreds of clients, bosses, co-workers and viewers of all stripes about what they liked or did not like about a particular video. I have evaluated hundreds of finished video projects, often revamping them to make them better. Video marketing does bring in a total different outlook of a product..If well done can be an instant traffic source..

In no time video marketing goes on top leaving all advertising methods behind. I think a successful advertising campaign can’t be carried out without videos. I am wondering how companies and individuals are using Youtube and other media for promoting them.

Video is separating average blogs from great blogs.
The bandwidth is there. Equipment is cheap. It’s surprising how few bloggers and website operators are utilizing video.
Does WP has a plugin to record a video and post it to blog?
It could be useful!

Good post.
All of this withstanding the biggest problem I’m having these days is to get my clients to understand the important of social media in terms of brand building. They still think it’s some kind of novelty that teens are into. I’ve been trying to get people to understand that social media sites are having a huge influence not only in the conversations people are having about a brand, but also on the search results that are coming up.
I recently wrote a post about the tools that people are using to monitor the online space and that clients are still hung up in web analaytics to judge their brands health in the online space, but I’d like to hear your thoughts on it. E-mail me some time!

I agree totally with what you said about video beigh the future of bolgs. I have had similar experiences with my previous blogging buddies. It seems like nobody cares about content any longer. That is why I teamed up with a group that has ethics and is honest about what they do. They have fresh and professional content and lots of traffic. PM me or email me if you want details.
